After a landmark year in 2024 for the global floating offshore wind pipeline with the award of 1.9 GW of offtake contracts, 2025 was quiet.
But 2026 got off to a good start in floating with the award of offtake contracts for two floating wind projects in the UK as part of the Allocation Round 7 (AR7), adding 193 MW to the global floating pipeline with secured route to market.
However, the future floating wind offtake pipeline in 2026 and beyond remains limited with murky timelines. It is still mostly centered around the UK and France with South Korea as somewhat of a dark horse due to ongoing regulatory changes and project struggles. Additionally, existing auction delays in France and South Korea, combined with the lack of clear pipeline in the UK, creates a blurry picture of how the global floating pipeline may develop over the next few years.
Project timelines of awarded floating projects also stay uncertain, and each market have its own difficulties to solve. However, technological commercialization of floaters and the availability of Chinese turbines are two key factors to look out for as projects continue their development.
