Aegir Insights has joined an offshore wind cost modelling working group with leading academic and industry players including National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), Danish Technical University (DTU), BVG Associates, ORE Catapult and Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy Systems.

These cost models support a range of use cases in industry and policy making, including operational planning, cost evaluations of competing technologies, and project risk assessment. 

The main objective of the working group is to establish the a benchmark of model approaches, best practices and specific use cases. As the industry evolves, it is important to periodically calibrate cost models to ensure that they capture the current state of the industry and provides confidence that collaborative projects between industry and research groups are founded on the most up-to-date modeling tools. 

The working group will encourage future collaboration and knowledge sharing to ensure the relative accuracy of models as new technologies become prevalent in offshore wind projects.
