At least 19 GW of onshore wind capacity will be on offer in auctions across Europe in 2026.

By far most capacity comes from Germany, which runs four auctions a year with 2,5 GW or more on offer in each round.

In a similar league, the UK is also set to offer CfDs for 3-4 GWs of onshore wind capacity in its Allocation Round 8, expected to launch in fall, following AR7's award of 3.4 GW onshore wind. Most other markets go for smaller auction rounds of 1 GW or below, including Türkiye, France, Poland, Greece and Austria.

Auctions are expected as well in Ireland, Romania, Italy and the Netherlands, though auction volumes remain unknown.

In the near term, auction-based support schemes will remain the primary route to market in Europe, but merchant sale and corporate PPAs are expected to expand as complementary or main revenue streams.

This is particularly the case in Spain, which is already a leading CPPA market in Europe, and Germany. But the trend is expected across most markets, partly driven by the demand from data centers and other large power consumers.
