2025 has been another turbulent year for the offshore wind industry, however the sector is slowly recalibrating. This can also be seen in the global auction space, with new auctions having been initiated and awarded globally, with most activity having been in European markets. But there were also several postponed or unsuccessful auctions throughout the year.
2025 auction highlights:
🔹 13 auctions were initiated in 2025 across 12 markets, accumulating over 15 GW of offshore wind capacity launched.
🔹 8 auctions with around 12 GW capacity were successfully awarded in 8 markets, across Europe and Asia-Pacific.
🔹 6 auctions with around 8 GW were unsuccessful across 6 markets in all regions. And several auctions have been postponed.
We are waiting for final results from Colombia as well as the Polish auction still this week, and France’s AO9 bidding phase could also still be launched in 2025.
While 2025 has overall been turbulent, 2026 is currently looking to be a more promising year which will be busy with offshore wind auctions across the Americas, Asia-Pacific and Europe.
