What a way to end the year: The first competitive offshore wind support auction in Poland has successfully concluded, awarding 25-year two-way CfDs for Baltic East, Baltica 9 and Bałtyk 1.
Yesterday’s outcome advances the three projects toward FID and eventual commissioning, joining the existing pool of 5.9 GW projects with support granted from 2021.
The winners are:
🔹 Baltic East, developed by ORLEN Neptun at PLN 476.88/MWh (~EUR 113/MWh)
🔹 Baltica 9, developed by PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna at PLN 489.00/MWh (~EUR 116/MWh)
🔹 Bałtyk 1, developed by Polenergia and Equinor at PLN 492.32/MWh (~EUR 117/MWh)
Baltica 9’s entry was less expected, but an undisclosed PGE–RWE deal on the neighboring FEW Baltic II site and a 2025 RWE-secured environmental permit for the Baltica 9 site made the project eligible to bid and secure a win.
The auction allowed for up to 4 GW of support allocation, and to ensure competition, not all bidders could win. This also meant that a fourth bidder, Baltica 1, was not awarded support.
Baltica 1 together with other by-then matured projects in the Polish pipeline can bid in Poland’s next support auction, planned for 2027, also awarding a 25-year two-way CfDs to around 4 GW.
