Over the last weeks the Nordic offshore wind community gathered across Sweden, Norway and Finland discussing the sector’s evolving dynamics and positive signals hinting at offshore wind recovery.

National defense and security priorities emerging as themes in offshore wind in the Nordics

Themes at the Swedish Offshore Wind Forum (SOWF2025) focused on strategic planning for the offshore wind build-out in Sweden, alongside national defense and security priorities, and how these two topics can coexist. Giving a future outlook for Swedish offshore wind, Aegir Insights’ Principal and Regional Lead Europe Thomas Hwan Jensen provided a keynote on what would be needed for a Swedish merchant offshore wind farm.

Macro-economic signals point towards easing headwinds for offshore wind

At the Floating Wind Days in Norway and the Wind Finland Offshore conferences our founders Rikke Winther Nørgaard and Scott Urquhart offered a global market perspective on offshore wind, highlighting recent developments that we see at Aegir Insights pointing to a potential sector rebound. This includes declining interest rates, commodity prices forecasted to decline, and increased government appetite for support auctions. Furthermore, shifts in the supplier landscape could create an additional recovery push.

Governments staying committed and reacting to market conditions

The increased government appetite for support auctions was also highlighted by the auction announcement for Utsira in Norway and Denmark’s new auction framework, providing a renewed positive outlook for offshore wind in the country, just months after the failed North Sea round in December 2024.

All in all, the fundamentals for offshore wind across the Nordics remain strong.

Thank you for the interesting presentations and insightful discussions across these conferences!
