The government in the Philippines is planning to launch the 5th Green Energy Auction (GEA) in July 2025, the first support auction for offshore wind in the country.
Several developers have already expressed interest and dialogues on criteria, ceiling price and deadlines are ongoing. The auction will be exclusively dedicated to offshore wind projects and is a positive step towards market maturity.
The Philippines' open-door market has seen strong political ambitions and significant progress over the past years. The current offshore wind pipeline includes more than 80 projects with a combined capacity of nearly 66 GW. However, most of these projects are still in early stages of development and multiple barriers could slow down market development.
