Tune in on 6 February to the next Aegir Wavelength Roundtable:
Could hybrid power plants be the key to achieving a reliable and sustainable energy system?

In the transition to sustainable energy systems and the emergence of energy-intensive industries, the dynamics of supply and demand are shifting.

This calls for solutions that can adapt to changing needs and be deployed in the near term. Combining renewable energy technologies with storage in hybrid power plants can be both a flexible and cost-competitive alternative to traditional baseload, such as nuclear.

In Aegir Insights’ upcoming Wavelength on 6 February 2025, we will talk about hybrid power plants in a broader dimension, covering possibilities as well as dilemmas with these types of systems.

For this edition we will be joined by José Pedro Blasques, Head of LCoE at Vattenfall, and Peter Enevoldsen, VP & Module Owner Modelling & Analytics at Vestas and Professor in Energy Technologies at Aarhus University to discuss:

🔹Could offshore wind be a reliable baseload?

🔹Which benefits do wind-based hybrid power plants bring?

🔹What are the issues in their implementation and how could we unlock the potential of this technology?

Offshore wind as baseload – do we need nuclear in Sweden?

Sweden’s push to incentivize the build-out of nuclear energy for baseload is a 20th century solution to a 21st century problem. Other options can potentially provide competitive and secure energy supply. Combining offshore wind with battery storage in hybrid power plants can be a flexible and cost-competitive alternative to nuclear.

In Aegir Insights’ report, available to our clients here, we analyze more in-depth the potential for an offshore wind and storage-based hybrid power plant in the Swedish context.
