Canada launches prequalification for first offshore wind auction
Canada just launched the prequalification leading up to its first offshore wind auction, with three areas identified off the Atlantic province Nova Scotia.
What to know about the first offshore wind auction in Canada:
- The simultaneous Prequalification and Call for Information are lead by the Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Energy Regulator and will run until January 13th.
- Three areas are on the table in this initial auction - with actual leases to be defined within those areas, guided by responses to the Call for Information.
- Prequalification criteria are mostly aimed at clarifying financial and technical capabilities of potential bidders, but with one nudging towards use of local workforce.
- Direct or indirect support initiatives include a potential PPA, federal ITCs, the Wind West transmission project and more.
