The world is wiring up across borders, and the firm orders are the easy part to see. But more than 100 GW of interconnector capacity has not yet reached a final investment decision. For the subsea cable and HVDC supply chain, that is the order book that has not been placed yet.

Where the longest links run

Across the North Sea and Baltic Sea, the longest links by subsea cable range from operational routes like North Sea Link (720 km) and Viking Link (625 km) to pre-FID projects such as HansaLink (850 km) and TritonLink (773 km). Ranking by subsea cable rather than total length reshuffles the order: Viking Link is mostly onshore, so its 625 km of subsea cable ranks it below the newer, offshore-heavy links.
