On 26 January 2026, at the North Sea Summit in Hamburg, participating countries reaffirmed the ambition to deliver 300 GW of offshore wind by 2050, with an explicit target of up to 100 GW to be delivered through cross-border cooperation projects.
A concrete and groundbreaking step toward realizing this target came during the summit, when Denmark and Germany signed an agreement on the 3 GW Energy Island Bornholm that includes cross-border allocation of support, paving the way for a shared framework to advance and scale similar cross-border projects.
In a new report, available to clients, Aegir Insights untangles the business case of the 3 GW Energy Island Bornholm I & II based on the recent historical political agreement between Denmark and Germany.
