Since 2022, the South Korean government has been rolling out a steady stream of PPA auctions, resulting in the award of 4.5 GW of capacity across 16 projects.
However, the upcoming H2 2025 PPA auction in South Korea looks to become the most crowded one yet as up to 6.3 GW of fixed bottom projects could become eligible and almost 4.9 GW of floating projects are eligible to bid, compared to the expected auction capacity of just 3.2 GW for fixed-bottom and 1 GW for floating wind.
Aegir Insights’ subscribing clients have access to a new Insights report, providing an overview of the potential field of bidders for the South Korea H2 2025 PPA auction and conducts a break-even strike price analysis to assess project feasibility and competitiveness.
While the final conditions for the auction is still unknown, it is expected to follow the general conditions of previous auction rounds with a strong non-price focus on local economic benefits, energy security and grid suitability, potentially with additional financial add-ons to the PPA if projects commit to local content.
If the schedule mirrors last year’s, the auction is likely to open within the next weeks with results announced in December.
