2025 was a quiet year in floating offshore wind, but 2026 could see momentum return.
While the familiar hurdles are still there: supply chain repricing, recalibrated auction designs, and a tighter bar for FID, several markets are showing continued support for floating:
France: Upcoming AO10 auction includes almost 5 GW of floating capacity, with results expected early 2027.
UK: AR7 delivered the award of 2 floating projects totaling 200 MW.
South Korea: A new Offshore Wind Promotion Act and an active PPA auction signal a maturing but also complex regulatory environment for floating wind.
Japan: The 16 MW Goto floating wind farm reached first power in January 2026 — and new EEZ legislation could define what comes next.
The current fixed-bottom recalibration is not bad news for floating offshore wind. It is forcing a more honest cost trajectory and a more disciplined route to market.
