In August 2025, the European Commission approved EUR 11.34 bn in state aid to support three floating offshore wind projects in the upcoming French AO9 auction, under the newly adopted EU Clean Industrial Deal State Aid Framework.
One project is located off the coast of South Brittany, the other two in the Mediterranean and each project will have a capacity of up to 550 MW, supported by 20-year, two-sided CfDs. Twelve pre-qualified consortia will compete for these projects, designed as extensions of the already awarded AO5 and AO6 sites.
The results of these previous French auctions AO5 and AO6 raised eyebrows with unexpectedly low strike prices.
What strike price levels can we expect for AO9? Will they follow the trend set by previous rounds?
